THE SHEPHERD OF HERMAS 

(Apocryphal, 2nd century after Jesus-Christ)

comprises 5 visions, 12 mandates (precepts), 10 parables (similitudes), given to Hermas (the author of the book), by the Angel of Repentance, in the guise of a Shepherd.

Sheperd of Hermas, Similitude 5 , chapter 3:  About fasting 
or Full text : Sheperd of Hermas chapter 56, v 7

" On that day on which thou fastest, thou shalt taste nothing but bread and water. And from thy meats, which thou wouldest have eaten, thou shalt reckon up the amount of that day's expenditure, which thou wouldest have incurred, and shall give it to a widow, or an orphan, or to one in want,... "

REVELATION OF ESDRAS ( 2 Esdras 4) or APOCALYPSE OF EZRA (4 Ezra, chapter 4, verse 34),according to translation.

 He answered me and said : " You do not hasten faster than the Most High, for your haste is for yourself, but the Highest hasten on behalf of many"
